Founder and Director of Synavlis
Synavlis is a quartet (occasionally 5tet and 6tet) that performs Greek traditional music from Asia Minor (mainly the regions of Smyrna and Constantinople) and the Greek islands (such as Kalymnos, Chios, and Lesvos), selected songs from Macedonia and Thrace, as well as compositions by major figures of the Smyrneiko/Rebetiko style that was developed in the early 20th century, such as Panayotis Toundas, Dimitris Semsis, and Vaggelis Papazoglou to name a few.
Instrumentation consists of voice, violin, oud, laouto (Greek lute), and percussion (and occasionally bouzouki for early Rebetika).
